RAM compatible with Motherboard?

I'm helping someone with a new build and I'm not sure about all of the components they picked out. The motherboard selected is ASRock P55 Extreme: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...2&ref=dynamitedata.com

They had also ordered the following Patriot Viper RAM that's listed as 1.7V: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...6&ref=dynamitedata.com

It was my understanding - starting with the i7 9xx's and continuing with the i5 & i7 8xx's - that Intel only supported RAM running at <= 1.65V. Is this true?

If it is true - What will happen if they try to run this combination? Will it run? What are the potential problems?
