RAM compatibility

Question.
I just bought 2 sticks of Crucial 256MB PC133 SDRAM and I had 2 128MB PC150 Mushkin HSDRAM in my system before that. I bought the crucial ram under the impression that i wouldn't have a problem with compatibility because i've stuck to 133MHz FSB. But when I mix all of these together and boot my system up, I get the blue-screen-of-death screaming that I've not enough memory. WHAT? 768MB isn't enough?!?!?!
So here's my question for you guys, what's my problem here, two types of RAM clocked at differently or the compatibility between HSDRAM and SDRAM?

Run the (2) Crucials by themselves, is it working properly? If so then you have a compatibility issue.

yeah that's what i'm doing right now. annoyed that i can't use the mushkin with 'em... :|

the 2 mushkin hsdram in first 2 slots and the 2 crucial in last 2 slots or
the 2 crucial in first 2 slots and the 2 mushkin hsdram in last 2 slots?

did you try both way?

2 Mushkin in the first two slots then 2 Crucial in the second two slots.
haven't tried it the other way round though. Think it's worth a try?
I've got an ASUS P3V4X btw...

a lot of times changing the faster ram in the first two slot makes a difference

Is it all recognized properly in BIOS? Get Docmem from Simmtester.comand run it. It will create a boot disk; boot off that and test the memory to make sure it's all good.

If you're running Windows 98 or Me, that's probably your problem. Read the FAQ, the link to the solution's in there

hey, goog40, i think that's the solution to my problem. Thing is, the solution is to limit the max amount of memeory like let's say to 512MB since that apparently is all Windows Me can handle. So after I do that, won't the rest of my 256MB of RAM be rendered useless? what's the point then?

you need a better os (nt, 2k, linux, or unix type) to use more than 512MB ram.
