RAM compatibility question.

Hi all.

I was planning to get the simplest RAM sticks (as was advised in several places), so I went with this:

Crucial DD3-1600

Then I decided to check for its compatibility (using the tester to the right of the spec in the link above) to my motherboard of choice:

Gigabyte Z87X - UD3H

and it was incompatible.

Can someone please explain what is it that is incompatible and how to check for such a thing. At first glance it seemed OK to me.

Thank you.

[/I]You've. got the cart before the horse. You check for compatibility on the MB site not the memory site. In any case allnis not lost. The compatibility list just shows what modules were tested. It is NOT a list of the only modules that will work. Even in the fairly rare event they don't work at the rated speed, they'll usually work at a slower speed.

Indeed. The module above, however, doesn't make Mobo's list 🙂 too. I guess they can't test all RAMs.

Is there a way to know what RAM should theoretically be compatible? I mean, what specs to look for when comparing?

As I said, the ram will probably work fine. Unless you are bench marking, you will never notice the difference in speeds between different modules. In general, other similar modules by the same manufacturer as the modules listed in the MB compatibility list are all but guaranteed to work at their rated speed.
