RAM Capacity Recommendation

I'd like to hear some opinions...

Here's my system:

DFI NF2 Ultra Infinity Nforce2 Ultra MB
768MB DDR Corsair XMS3500 CAS2 at 434Mhz
Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2400Mhz
SoundStorm Audio
eVGA 6800GT 256MB AGP

I'm going to be running HL2 at 1680x1050 with eye candy on as much as possible. I'm trying to decide if I should replace my 3x256 sticks of Corsair XMS3500 with some higher capacity sticks of something else. I could get about 1.5GB but then I'd probably end up getting higher latency stuff. Not sure if that is a good trade-off.

Should I upgrade my RAM capacity or leave well enough alone?

for gaming, 1.5 gb probably will not make a big difference. As far as half-life 2 performance, the key components will be video card and cpu.

if you have to spend the money, a motherboard + cpu upgrade would be more helpful.
