RAM being random

Right, so I installed the other 256 chip, so I'm now 'supposed' to be running 384 ram right? (128 + 256).

But sometimes the comp. only registers the 128mb and other times it does recognise the 384. It's being really random..

Why isn't my PC fully recognising the 256 AND 128 ALL the time?
