Just wondering..

How come the big sellers in the USB flash drive and RAM market are not competitive in the SSD market? I know these are different fields, but I would think it would be smooth/natural transition. I think Crucial and maybe OCZ are the only two RAM/flash companies that are competitive in the SSD arena.

Whare did Kingston, Corsair, G.Skill, Patriot, Mushkin, AData, etc. go wrong?

Because they're not vertically-integrated NAND mfgrs too?

Edit: All of those companies DO makes SSDs.

Educate yourself on what "vertically-integrated" means.

Once the "big boys" (NAND suppliers) got into the market, it was no longer a niche market. They have the resources to drive volume, and lower prices, and squeeze the smaller, lower-margin players out of the market.

You missing the most important USB flash and ssd manufacturer San disk they are the company that takes over M-Systems .And they make good ssd and can use patents used by M-Systems . They also do a good job with maintaining CF standard for about 20 years , it give hardware manufacturer the insurance that flash cards will be available for the CF device for a long time .
