Ram and SSD question.

I have spent so much time lurking in the Ryzen 3000 series thread over the last few weeks that I have only just realised I might want to upgrade my SSD to M.2 at the same time!

Coming from a Samsung Evo 830, I am currently tossing up between 1TB 660p (200ish AUD) and a 512GB Gigabyte M.2 GP-GSM2NE8512GNTD (130AUD). My usage will be pretty light, with writes being no larger than a video game install and reads being typical light desktop loads, so I am thinking the 660p. The slowdowns in latency mentioned in the Anand review do scare me a bit though so maybe I am better off with the gigabyte drive?

I have really not spent any time diving down the rabbit hole that is SSD performance so your thoughts would be appreciated.

If those are your two choices, go with the Intel one. The Gigabyte drive is only PCIe 3.0 x2 drive (the Intel is PCIe 3.0 x4), and only comes with a 3 year warranty (compared to 5 years for Intel drive). Plus, when it comes to products other than motherboards or video cards, Gigabyte isn't known for selling quality products (like their power supply lineup).

The Intel 660p drive is a very good buy at it's current price for general usage. If you want a little faster "budget" drive (and depending on the prices in your country), you can grab a HP EX920 or ADATA SX8200 PRO. The Corsair MP500 and MyDigitalSSD BPX PRO are good choices as well that are priced low in the U.S., but I have no idea what they will cost in your neck of the woods.

I like the reviews of the ADATA you suggested although I probably wont notice a difference for the things I do with my PC when compared with the 660p.

It's a bit more than I wanted to spend but I will probably get the ADATA. At least that way I don't have to stress about filling up my drive.

Thanks for your input.
