RAM and quad cores

Doubtful. The Folding cores have pretty low memory usage, considering the specs of today's machines. Unless you have some other program running all day that somehow eats lots of memory but not CPU time, Folding hardly makes a dent in your 2GB already.

Thanks foxery. this will just be a folding system mainly. Did I miss some system specs on the Folding site? Would 1GB be enough?

My guess is 1GB would be enough. Try with 1GB and see if there is spare room in the RAM once its folding. Just as long as its not swapping with the hard drive and you're fine.

Yea, but in today's XP or Vista environment, 2 gigs is the min for a system that will be taxed by other than folding. I thought I recalled that 2gigs were required for larger units but I'm probably mistaken.

Fold,

With windows and just normal 'stuff' like browsing, music and the like, I see my total usage get just over 1GB frequently (two SMP clients running), but I've never approached the 2GB I have in here except when I play on-line for a long time without a break.

(just go to task manager and see what your peak RAM usage has been and that'll give you a good idea of what you need for your PC habits)
