Ralph Nader claims Obama talks white and appeals to white guilt

Story here.

Ralph Nader is from my state, and I grew up when he was slaying real dragons, like unsafe Chevys, etc. One of my closest friends from college worked with him for over twenty years. But ever since Nader has gotten his political itch he has become increasingly irrational and irrelevant.

This is a guy who devoted his entire life to serving the public good (as he saw it) and never once sought to profit off it. The guy has lived a virtual monk's vow of poverty his entire adult life. It's really sad to me where he has ended up, on his own volition.

It is too bad he injected race into his comments. He's right about all the things he said, IMO.
Barack Obama is making a lot of concessions (FISA) to get elected. Just another politician in my book. (meh, like if anyone REALLY thought he was going to lead us into a golden age).

So, he's talking about that guy with the average white woman grandmother? Yep, real terrible that he's joining the race card so late.

Would everyone stop getting their panties in a knot over dumb shit already? When will we ever get to a point in our society where "Joe blow said black this or that" means diddly squat? I'm sick of hearing this crap about Imus and now nader. It's like people run around LOOKING for something to complain about. Grow up my GOD!

In this case, I think Nader is looking for attention and just couldn't stand the idea of not throwing his 2 cents at the public. This spotlight will be turned off by the beginning of the next week.

Let's see... First Obama is a militant racist black man and now he's an Uncle Tom? Yeah, whatever. Even if everything Nader said about Obama was true it's not like McCain would be a champion of the poor. In short, FOAD Mr. 'a vote for me is a vote for Bush/McCain' Nader.

Nader was a hero as a consumer advocate. Then, he became a pathetic footnote to history who may have tossed the 2000 election to Bush. If that is actually the case, he can live with sharing the blame for the damage the Bushwhackos have done to our nation.

In any case, I've lost all respect for him. Old Ralph needs an extra large helping of STFU.

I fear his ego need for denial of what he wrought is driving him farther into trauma just like so many of our married greats who succeed at getting caught with other women. Self hate finds a way to destroy you the more you go against its grain. We all seek unconsciously to prove we are worthless. It's why people can't stay married. Anybody who loves you has got to be a fool, so unconsciously we become assholes so we can push people who love us away.

Here's why that's stupid. White guilt will win Obama public polls but has the opposite effect in a private voting booth. Obama knows this so has no interest in exploiting white guilt. He needs people to want to vote for him, or not want to vote for McCain, but guilting people only works in public.

Ugh. There are no words for how much I despise when people talk about minorities talking/acting white.

Agreed. That's REAL racism IMO. "Be what we want you to be."

More trolling from you. Lies are the last desperate refuge of the incompetent.
Those comments in context were arguing against the notion that it was 'racism' for blacks to vote for Obama in such high percentages.

historically speaking, and in relation to how our government has evolved since its birth, the black community has gone through alot.

Moreso than women

Moreso that immigrants

Moreso than any other minority.

Its not inappropriate to discuss this history in trying to understand racial tension that exists today, or glass ceilings, or poverty, or anything else that the black community is dealing with.

I can't help if you feel guilty about any of that. Whites need to dump this idea of white guilt just as much as blacks need to dump this idea of entitlement. And that doesn't mean we stop talking about everything that transpired up till now that caused these things.

unless you want to be ignorant of history, and go back to your bigotry. :)

And if lupi disagrees that racism still exists in America, he need only look up one of Butterbean's posts. Not only did these things happen in our history, but there are still a large number of people who are upset that they are not still happening.

As long as there is one camera left Jackson will be spouting off.

I'm going to play devil advocate and ask everyone to read what Nader said, completely.

"There's only one thing different about Barack Obama when it comes to being a Democratic presidential candidate. He's half African-American," Nader said. "Whether that will make any difference, I don't know. I haven't heard him have a strong crackdown on economic exploitation in the ghettos. Payday loans, predatory lending, asbestos, lead. What's keeping him from doing that? Is it because he wants to talk white? He doesn't want to appear like Jesse Jackson? We'll see all that play out in the next few months and if he gets elected afterwards."

I'll say that Nadar is kinda of a kook, but this guy has done an incredible amount of good in his life - watch his documentary. Unfortunately, he's victim of character assassination from both parties and himself too :(
