Rally Pics

Went to the annual rally in Wellsboro this weekend and thought I'd share some pics for the fellow rally fans. Had a good time, thankfully it didn't rain all day, though it was not exactly the nicest of weather. Almost got the STi stuck in about 6-7 inches of straight mud, thankfully made it out (AWD FTW!), thought my V-Limited lip paid the price 🙁

Enjoy the pics, it was my first time actually taking pics of moving cars.

Rallye, imo is the most demanding of all the motorsports (involving cars at least). Best rally driver = best driver... Anyways, didnt know that US had any significant rallying.

It's not really significant (compared to WRC anyways), but there is definitely a ton of fans. The ESPN X-Games are having rally racing as part of the events this year, so I think that will bring a lot more exposure to it.

It's just a shame we don't really get in on the WRC 🙁

I didn't enter myself, but there is an amateur rally the day before. I wasn't able to compete in that one since I had to work on Friday. The mud I nearly got stuck was on the way to event. It was held in a state park, so there were more than a few roads with no maintenance at all.

You have your own car?

It's not a rally car per se, but a decently suitable 05 STi. I just need some mud/gravel tires, as the Yokohama Advans don't do so hot on non-paved surfaces.

For the amateur charity rally, you can pay $30 and run your own car as long as it meets their guidelines. However, even though you race the same course as the pro drivers, you have observe speed and traffic guidelines.

I love rallys, I didn't think PA had a good rally thing going. Good pics, a tad underexposed but I still love 'em.

The weather was pretty crappy and I had pretty poor lighting since it was in the forest. I had the shutter speed way low to begin with, much lower and I would have been getting no clear pics at all. The way they look (dark) is how it actually was.

I also don't have a good flash yet, though using it for the on-coming drivers is frowned upon also.

do you have to take any training course? do you get to drift?

It was a pretty lousy day. One morning stage cancelled due to high water level. Another morning stage had to be cancelled half way through because of a fallen tree. And then in the evening, the rally promoters warned the drivers to be careful at the one corner I was spectating at, so they all came through rather cautiously.

It was still decent but I've had 10x more fun most other years...

No training as far as I know, and yes you do get to drift. However, you have trees to stop you if you don't know how 😉

Which stage were you at? I was at Wilson (hardly anyone there because of the horrendous amount of mud) and Stage 5 & 9.

Asaph (stage 1) which was horribly overcrowded because people were told not to go to Wilson and the Splash was cancelled. In the afternoon, Twelve Mile for both stages.
