Raleigh-Cary, NC ATOT'ers: US-1 between Tryon and Walnut: 55MPH speed trap?

Hey Raleigh-Cary, NC folks out there did the city of Cary purposely setup a 55MPH corridor to ticket drivers?

I was just traveling south on US-1 between Walnut St. and Tryon on the newly opened 8-lane portion and saw 8 police vehicles (6 motorcycles cops, 2 crown vics) that had stopped cars, minivans, pickups on JUST the southbound traffic with a span of 2 miles.

The way that road is setup, it's perfectly set for a 65MPH speed limit and most people do 65-70MPH down the road, but they have it setup for 55MPH (which is beyond belief as there is NOTHING around there).

I saw WRAL News out there so maybe they'll do a story tonight at 5 PM.

Yep they've done that several times since they opened up the new lanes. Clearly a 65MPH road but set to 55 with heavy enforcement. It was the same with the 64 bipass and now the new chunk of 540.

This is a new section of highway? They expanded a road near me from one lane to 3 and set the speed limit to 45 initially, even though you could safely drive 65 on the road. They changed it to 55 after a month or so.

I figured they set the limit lower than necessary until they could complete an engineering study.
