after my athlon xp fried, switching to athlon sempron (soc A) for the meanwhile till I get nforce4 board with athlon 64.
In all the reviews, it shows sempron performing poor to athlon barton. And I dont want an OEM mobile chip.

So, I was just wondering what is the effect of upping the fsb on my abit NF7-Sv2.0 board.
The sempron 2600+ would have multiplier locked at 11. So, if I raise the fsb only to 200 then I would get 2.2 Ghz.
Again, my overall system would faster ? would the cpu start churing data over it's stock speed. I wonder if its multi
is locked, how it churns data faster.....

Any particular reason for not wanting the Barton-M? My 2200+ 35w did 12.5x200 in my NF7-S v2.0 rock solid, so I'm just curious.

As to the system being faster by boosting it to 200fsb, yes it would be. The multi has nothing to do with performance beyond potentially limiting an overclock if a board won't achieve the fsb necessary to reach the CPU's full potential. The FSB boost from 166 to 200 will bring a marginal performance increase, but the extra 367mhz clockspeed would significantly enhance overall performance.

Yeah, I do have a reason but thats not technical tho..

Where I live (not USA) I get boxed packs only and RMA is really a nightmare.
Right now, I am yet to send mushkin module for RMA. Same prob with my Aopen vcard.

Anyways, pls tell me the heat sink also .. if possible with the link ..

What country are you in? The stock cooler that comes with the 2600+ will be fine for 2.2ghz, so you won't need another cooler. The senario where better cooling might be necessary is if you live in a hot area and your ambient/room temp is high, and you need to boost voltage significantly to obtain 2.2ghz *not likely*.

I did not know that athlon m comes in PIB. I always get stuff from newegg which always shows athlon M as OEM pack without any cooler fan and heatsink The reason my present cpu fried was due to bad heatsink. So, where do you find athlon M in PIB pack pls....send me the link and I would try to get from USA. I have air conditioner constantly running in my comp room so if the moblie comes in PIB that would suffice..thanks !

Bit of a communications gap between us :) I meant the cooler that comes with the 2600+. BTW, your board should have settings in the bios to clock throttle, warn when temp threshold is exceeded, and shutdown completely. No way should a CPU fry due to overheating in a NF7-S V.2.0

Sempron socket As are basically T-bred rev bs that are locked. So a 2.2GHz semmy is like I dunno a 3000+ AXP. Not bad.
