Raise your hands

There is absolutely nothing to be seen at Area 51. At Edwards, on the other hand... There are 2 SR-71's on the ground, the photo is dated after they were retired, and a GIGANTIC portion of the airbase is blocked off.

Area 51 was used for the SR71, F-117 and B2 projects. Now that everyone knows it's there, it's become nothing more than a plaything which the government uses to distract prying eyes from REAL projects at other locations.

Yes, they used to fly SR-71's out of Eielson Air Force Base here in Alaska. This was due to the fact that they could easily fly over the Pole and back, and also because Eielson has one of the longer runways in the world. Even after the planes were officially retired, there was a blurb in the paper about some of them being brought back into service.

Someone made a whole site dedicated to it. They archived the photos just in case it were ever blocked out.

Do a search in the forums, someone linked it before. Might be archived by now. I don't recall if it had it's own thread, or just turned up in the previous Google Maps thread.
