I'm at work and right now there is a rainbow halo / dark ring around the sun. I took a bunch of pics on my phone but no way to host them while I'm here at work.

I will upload when I get home or if someone can host for me while I'm at work, I can e-mail them straight from my phone.

Otherwise I took a YouTube video here. The annoying voice at the end is a co-worker.

The pics I took were before the ring got bigger and the colors are easier to make out (rainbow is less faded).

Looking on youtube there are other occurences, but cool to see it in person!

I can only upload standard def straight from my phone, but it's better than nothing!

Very cool / strange!

That is kind of cool. I've never personally seen that.

I believe that's caused by high-altitude ice crystals if I remember my meteorology.

At first, I was thinking it was just a 22 degree halo. They're very common to see. But, he said the ring got bigger, so I'm kind of scratching my head. There are a couple of other phenomena, but the other one I'm thinking of doesn't make a whole 360 degree circle around the sun.

It could have been appearance from it fading. I can't really stare at the area of the sun too long. It definitely became lighter and at least appeared larger.

i saw one of those when i was in aruba and was at this beach that is like a cove. no one really knew why it was there but we thought it had to do with the time of day and reflection off of the water or something. was pretty neat and lasted like an hour or two. i took a bunch of pics of that as well when i was there.

I've seen that before on very cold days. If you look directly behind you there will be another rainbow in the sky, if I recall it will actually be upside down... though it's been a while since I've seen this phenomenon.

I've researched it a couple times, trying to figure out a triple rainbow. Saw one in 1987. It was so amazing to see that I pulled over on the highway to watch it. I've seen sites that say you can't have one, and sites that say the 3rd would be behind you. But, I saw three in a row. One link I found online states that it's only been observed 5 times in 250 years (I'm guessing they didn't count my sighting.)

I've seen it around once to twice a month my whole life.

The universe is an amazing place, huh?
