Rainbow 6: Patriots.

I've been waiting years for a new R6 game. This is glorious news, lets all celebrate.

Ubisoft announces and releases a target gameplay trailer for Rainbow 6: Patriots, which will be featured in the December 2011 issue of Game Informer.

Ubisoft finally pulled back the curtain on Rainbow 6: Patriots this week, revealing that the new installment in its tactical first-person shooter series will be coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows platforms in 2013. The Tom Clancy-branded shooter hasn’t been seen since 2008′s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, a game that came just a year after the first Vegas.

Patriots focuses, as you might expect, on the rising presence of terrorism in our world. A newly released “gameplay target” trailer (above) speaks directly to that, and in a very raw sort of way. The video isn’t gory, but take care if you’re at all squeamish. It’s more than mildly disturbing.

The game will pit Team Rainbow against the True Patriots, which the press release describes as “a highly-trained, well-organized revolutionary group that claim the American government is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests.” Players will be faced with making “tough ethical decisions,” a fact that is demonstrated clearly enough in the target gameplay footage.

Confirmed for Patriots is, as you’d expects, a single-player campaign, competitive multiplayer and co-op. There’s vague mention of “new features that enhance communications and tactical execution between teammates,” but no specifics are offered. Kinect support in some form seems like a given, however.

You’ll get more details in Game Informer’s December 2011 issues, which hits newsstands this month.

Bleh.

It'll be a dumbed-down, run'n'gun shooter with "tactics" and "realism" that involve "take cover behind [fixed] object during huge firefight".

Throw in an overblown, made-for-TV-movie plot, and it will be just what I expect these days.

I very much enjoyed the Vegas games, especially in co-op. Great action shooter. But a Rainbow Six game, they simply were not. And it's sad to see what used to be the PINNACLE in realism and tactical gameplay turn into a MW style shooter.

I'm interested by story basis alone. Getting tired of killing Arabs/Russians/North Koreans when there seem to be plenty of wackos here at home.

Vegas was okay, but the old Rainbow 6 1-3 games were just so masochistic... I must have replayed every level of each game from the start 20 times to make it through without anyone dying.

Vegas definitely dumbed it down to the point where it was just a regular shooter. Speaking of, wish they would make a Swat 5.

This. The vegas games were awesome.

saw the trailer, i think...the whole time it had "this is not in game footage" though but you could see that you could press controller buttons, although it looked like everything was scripted, so no idea wtf it was showing.

Did you not play either Vegas game?

The story was ludicrous, in part (IMO) because in an effort to make it P.C., they made the enemies all homegrown, American militia.
It was just...dumb. Literally hundreds upon HUNDREDS of these "right-wing" militia/terrorist...enough to take over and virtually destroy a major city. Riiiight.

They need to get back to the international intrigue/geopolitical stuff that was taken from actual Tom Clancy material, and had that air of realism. Ghost Recon has lost it, rainbow six has lost it, and Splinter Cell took it out back and beat it to death with a shovel.

i think you under-estimate that part.

Not really. Not saying there aren't a large number of loons out there, but they are relatively small pockets scattered all over with varying ideologies and bigotries. The idea that a couple thousand paramilitary militia, with attack helicopters and armored vehicles at their disposal, unite under one banner and destroy Las Vegas?
The whole plot was goofy.
Certainly not up to the TC of old.

I don't remember attack helicopters or armored vehicles, but it has been awhile since I played.

I might look into this one. Rainbow 6 : Rouge Spear was and still is one of my all time favorite games. I would play for countless hours all night long playing multiplayer online. Sometime so late (or early) that I would have to call in sick for work.

Wait, so the True Patriots are the good guys?

There's Ravenshield that came out afterwards. It was the last R6 game that kept to its roots. I must have played this game with every possible scenerio - no teammates, sidearm only...ect)
