I have an older Soyo 6ba+iv and a PIII-500. I have OC'ed it and use RAIN 2.

Is there a newer or better cooler than RAIN 2?

Also, will Rain 2 work if/when I upgrade to XP?

TIA

Good question, I was looking for newer versions too. I've got an older version of RAIN. Are there any versions that support AthlonXPs or Thunderbirds for that matter?

RAIN shuts down cpu processes during idle periods if I recall correctly? If so, the program is redundant under NT based architect and not needed. Correct me if I'm wrong and RAIN2 does more than just issue CPUIDLE processes.

I'm not sure if it will work but why would you want to use it in the first place under XP?

The NT kernel that WindowsXP is based upon issues the processor HLT command by default and so natively uses software cooling, so RAIN would be useless under the NT kernel.
