What is normally a 50 minute to one hour 25 mile commute took one hour and fifty minutes today. Atlanta drivers can not drive in the rain. Some guy wrapped his car around a tree on a two lane 35 mph road with a slight curve.

This one hour and fifty minute commute tops what has been the suckiest week of commuting at my new job so far. It has taken approximately one hour and thirty minutes all week long to get to work. I don't know what changed but all the sudden the commute went from a fifty to sixty minute commute to one hour and thirty minutes this week.

God I can't wait for spring break next week so I get a break for at least one week.

Coincidently, this happens on the same day that the Atlanta Urinal and Constipation reports on a study that shows Atlanta commutes to be among the worst in the nation.

Fausto...I don't want to hear it!

One of the reasons I am glad to not be there anymore.

Hear what? I was stuck in the sh*t today too. No way am I riding my bike with that much standing water on the roads and brain-dead soccer moms taking their little booboos to school.

That's the thing though. I don't even get on any of the major highways like I-85 or GA-400. I have no choice but to take secondary roads from Lawrenceville to Alpharetta because there is no major east-west road across the Northern burbs of Atlanta. Everything is north-south until you get down to I-285 and I-20. And because these roads are shared by Gwinnett and Fulton counties, they don't match and are constantly alternating between two and four-lane roads...Ga-20 being the worst.

Wuss! Actually, I thought about taking my car in today too, but I rode it out. My rain gear will be wet on the way home too though. My beater takes care of the water on the rode (fenders work wonders), and I take on the rest!

No people in any country can drive properly in the rain. People freeze up and turn into idiots. You've either got people who don't realize it's raining and drive as normal, or people who think that a bit of moisture means they should drive at half the speed limit.

I love my 10 minute back road commute to work.

We had one ridiculous storm where all these roads were flooded, trains were shut dow, etc, my commute was still 10 minutes.

We had a big snowstorm a few months ago that caused everyone's commute to take like 2 hrs. When asked the next day how my commute was, my response was, "well the 5 minutes it took to get the snow off my windshields was pretty inconvenient, and i had to drive a little more carefully so my commute was 20 minutes." it was funny seeing people react to that.

HA HA!

...least you didn't have to wait in the pouring a$$ rain for the GD bus this morning. The city bus was 20mins late to a bus stop with no shelter here in Athens. -_- The lightning also made it pretty interesting.

Normally, I'd ride in, but it was just too torrential today. There were deep puddles extending feet out from the curb in some areas. That's just a recipe for a disaster when you add cars to the mix.

I ALMOST moved to Atlanta in January to take a job, but decided to stay local. And do I mean local, my office is a 2 minute drive away from my house. If I want a 20 minute commute, I just walk to work. It's sooo nice here in NC, I just love this area! Sorry, I meant to also say I feel sorry for all of you in Atlanta and not to just gloat...yeah that's what I meant...

The traffic in Atlanta is the one thing I hate about that city. I go down there a couple times a year on business, and am amazed everytime on how congested it is. I live in Chicago now and deal with I90, and think Atlanta traffic is far worse.

I would have posted, but it was Easter weekend so I figured everyone would be busy with family stuff.

I'll be up that way several times this summer for races, so I'll post a heads-up and we'll sort out a meet. Nitemare came to watch me race in Elon last summer and lived to tell the tale. :p

Yeah, but I go through that every time it rains on my commute, Marietta St has terrible drainage. I think the deeper of the two major puddles was around 4" today. When I ware full rain gear, I just ride through the puddles none the worse for the experence, it's kind of fun acutally! The worst part for me is the underground parking lot at my office. They sealed the lot and it's like riding on wet paint. I've slipped going under 5mph, recked a nice helmet that way.
