this may be a stupid newbie question. With all the recent motherboards supporting raid on both ide and sata, can I run raid1 (mirroring) between a 300gb maxtor (IDE) and 300gb maxtor (SATA)? Is raid limited to either all sata drives or all ide drives? and Question 2 is can I run raid on two hard drives of different sizes?

I'll try to answer this, but I haven't played with it. The nv4 sli chipset supports (on the nv raid controller) Raid 0, Raid 1, Raid 1+0, and JBOD (which the manual is calling Just a Bunch Of Drives) that have the ability to span across the nv Serial ATA and Parallel ATA drives.

it all depends on what motherboard you have and the chipset it uses. I have a asus k8v se deluxe and it supports raid with ide and sata with the promise ide controller.
