RAID

First of all I know about RAID and the risks! 🙂

I googled and I had no luck, I looked at the manual and found nothing. So I am turning to y'all!

I have two hard drives (the ones I will use Raid with), one dvd burner, and one dvd rom. My motherboard has two ide controllers only (raid is enabled on both ide controllers). How do I look the devices up to the ide cables. Do I have to hook up One Hard drive and One DVD drive to one ide cable to the first ide controller and then the other hhd and dvd drive to the other ide controller on the motherboard?

Thank you!
David

You will need to have both hard drives on the same RAID enabled controller.

So basically, you have one controller RAID enabled, and you can hook up your hard drives to that. I believe you'll get best performance by having them be master on separate channels of the RAID controller.

Your dvd burner and dvd rom drive will be hooked up to the other IDE controller and it should be set to IDE mode. You can do the same with those drives, putting them on separate channels on the IDE controller and having them both be master.

Note that you have to set the modes of the IDE controllers. It either functions IDE, or RAID, but not both.

I've seen Dell mobos (Intel i think) that you can set to 'RAID then IDE' and it will check for a RAID setup then go to IDE, but I'll guess you won't run into that.

Ooh, that's interesting. I've never seen that before.

I researched some more and some people said to hook the hard drives on seperate ide cables by themselves. So if I do Raid it will be with the SATA drives....🙂
