Raid Setup

I would like to have a RAID 0 configuration.

Are there any guides out there that are easy to follow when configuring RAID?

Heard that RAID 0 is a very risky setup cause if 1 HDD crash all the data will be gone?

How to ensure that the RAID is safe? What are the necessary equipments i need?

Is it better to use a hardware base controller or a software base controller?

Possible to RAID 2 HDD parition instead of using 2 x HDD?

I heard that Raid controller is not necessary if your motherboard can support?
This is my rig specs for reference:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ | Abit AN8 Ultra | Leadtek WinFast PX7900GT TDH | 4 X 512 PC3200/400 Kingston CL2.5 | Samsung SyncMaster 930B | 200GB Seagate Sata + 40GB HD | LG 16X SuperMulti DVD Rewriter | Microsoft Windows XP With SP2 | Altec Lansing 120i | Power Logic Black | Antec TruePower 480W

Will be deciding on the capacity of the HDD later, but will be getting at least 2 X160GB HDD Sata II

Here's a link to RAID Basic 101 RAID

-Yes, if one of the hdd fails in RAID 0, all data is gone! Although even in a single hdd set up or non-raid, when a hdd fails all data is gone too. Back up is a must!
-Built in Mobo or Add-in RAID cards are acceptable unless you plan on using your rig for serious server or database server. In this case you need a full hardware RAID.
-To ensure a RAID is safe requires nothing but a good back up system.
-You cannot RAID partitions! Only physical hdd can be raided.
-If you have a built in mobo RAID controller you can use this one. If not get an add in RAID card.
