RAID/SATA drivers when installing windows...

I wasn't sure if this post was appropriate for the "software for windows" forum or the "operating systems" forum, so I just posted it here since it's windows specific.

I'm upgrading my computer this week and with that comes a fresh install of windows XP pro (provided by the university - SWEET!). The motherboard will be a Gigabyte GA-P31-S3G. It uses the Intel P31 chipset.

I do not have a floppy drive, but I do have SATA hard drives. Does anyone have any idea on how I can conquer this obstacle?
 
It is my understanding that WinXP that has SP2 integrated has no issues installing on SATA drives. I have done 10000 times with 100% success. Where you enter issues is if you need to install the AHCI drivers. In other words (and I am not sure about your board) if you set you SATA ports to work like IDE.... again you need nothing other than just installing WinXP straight. Works like a champ.

If you want to take advantage of the Intel AHCI and you set your SATA ports in your BOIS to be AHCI you will NEED a floppy as the F6 option while you are installing XP ONLY allows for a floppy... no USB no nothing.

The other option is to slipstream the drivers right into the XP CD.. ie... rip it to your HD... run the utility and add the drivers. This is more complicated.

Anyhow if I am not mistaken you have an XP cd that has the SP2 integrated... again not to repeat myself but you will have no issues as it wont require you to install any drivers. You can then "update" whatever drivers once the OS has been installed of course.

I hope I am understandin your question correctly.

Edit: Nlite is the app that allows you to take a look at your ripped XP on your HD and add whatever drivers you wish and then burn it back. This has to be the best program I have ever used. Not that hard and free too if you HAVE to do this and have no chioce (ie no floppy and refuse to get one).
