RAID questions

im posting the following for a friend of mine:

"I have a p4p800deluxe set up with raid0 with two IBM hard drives on the same IDE cable. They make moaning sounds at random times, is that normal with raid setup?"

Could you describe the ruckus sir?

Maybe you are just so smooth you turn your HDDs on (figuratively not literally) But are you sure the moaning sound isn't just the CD/DVD ROM spinning? It could also be vibration with the two drives writing at the same time, I believe you can buy rubber spacers at most of the quiet PC places, they are like washers and may helps quiet the problem.

I have the P4C800DX motherboard with two Raptors in a RAID 0 array. I hear fans before I hear the hard drives. And these are 10,000 RPM hard drives. So, you shouldn't hear any moaning, just a gentle "whirring" sound if anything.
