RAID QUESTIONS NO NOT THE COCKROACH CRAP

I have 2 x 160 gb in mirroring.

However I want to go larger.
possibly a 400gb x 2 maybe 300 x 2.

I would most likely want to run mirroring, possibly striping.

is it possible to back up the 160 data onto the 400 or 300gb hd and then add another hd to the 300gb and get the full space?

or would the 300 or 400 be only able to use 160gb ? from the previous ?

Providing he has a controller that supports it? Software RAID5 eats a lot of performance, and IMO is not worth it.

Yeah, I'd maybe just do a Raid-1 and then some drives outside the RAID array on an IDE controller card or something... but hey that's just me.
