I have a quick question about RAID arrays, say if I wanted a RAID 0+1 array, can I have 2 20GB hard drives totalling 40GB and 1 40GB drive for the RAID 1 backup? Would I have lower performance than just having the RAID 0 array by itself? Also, last but not least, will Serial ATA be able to be put into a RAID configuration?

I *think* that the drives have to be the same size, or the raid config will use the drive with the smallest size as the base drive
 
You need a minimum of 4 drives for a RAID 0+1, so it won't work. I'm sure sooner or later RAID will be adapted for serial ATA, but it's really too early to tell right now.
