RAID Question: partitioning RAID 0?? possible?

Hey fellow anantechs... I have been out of the scene for... oh geez... about a year or so... I have a question on RAID setup.
I have one existing RAID 0 of 160 x 2 as my backup, storage type of drive. My system drive is single 160 gig split into 40 did and 120, as i partitioned it. I recently bought another 160 gig and I wanted to RAID the system drive also. But I always find myself reimaging the drive every 6 month or so... and I dont want to lose all the data that was on it. One reason why I partition the system drive to about 30-40 gig only.

Guys, the question is.. can i split the RAID drive of 160 x2 as my system drive... split them into 2 drives?? Is that possible? How then.. I am using PCI RAID controller card on ASUS A7NX8 board. I can setup RAID during the bootup (i hit F3 to configure the card)... but if i wanted to partition the RAID drives, do i do that during Windows installation? or is that even possible?

I know this might be a noob question, but searching on this forum didnt answers I was looking for. Thanks for helping out guys...

In my experience IDE RAID controllers look like a single drive to Windows, so it doesn't know any better. You should be able to boot off the Windows CD and partition/install away or use your favorite partitioning software just as you would on a normal single drive. The IDE RAID controller really makes the fact that your volume is a RAID transparent to the software.

As the others have said, you can partitian it any way you want. I have my 2 raptors in raid 0 with 2 partitions, a 60gig partition, and a 10gig partition that I use to back things up. Also use an external drive for backups as well in case on of the drives ever fails.

You'll see better performance and less lost in the event of a failure from running everything as independent drives. not that I expect anyone to listen or anything....😉

yes, you can do it, and shoot yourself in the (already bleeding) foot in the process.

haha you guys are so funny.... thanks for the tip.. well.. here i go... RAID 0 here i come.. my second one.. oh yeah.. last question.. size of raid.. uhh they ask me AUTO, 64, 128, 256, 512.... i dont know what they mean.. what should i pick??? auto ?? thanks guys.. u guys are the only ones that helps me apart from all the other forums i've been on..
