raid problem w/ drive size

i have raid w/ the kt7 mobo. i connected both ibm deskstar 75gxp 15gig hd's w/ 1 ata 66 cable. when i hit properties on my drive, it says i only have under 13 gigs. ?

I'm assuming that you have both drives in a striped RAID 1 configuration. Please repost if this is not the case. In advertising drives, 1 Gigabyte is defined as 1,000,000,000 bytes. This artificially inflates the capacity of the drives. Since every manufacturer does it, the advertised capacity is still useful for comparison.

Also, the stripe itself takes up a small percentage of the drive.

i have it in a raid 0 setup. i should have close to 30 gigs. the computer says i only have 13. is it because i plugged both in through 1 cable?

oh yea, i can't run my soundcard w/ windows 2000. it's a aureal vortex 2. when i play stuff in winamp/media player, the computer freezes. any idea where i can get some drivers? i ran a utility to see what chipset i have (i allready was pretty sure), but it said it didn't detect any vortex cards. i guess if i just get a creative live! platinum or xgamer it will work. the main reason for writing this though was to bump it.... REPLIES?????

I think you may need to set up the drives again. Make sure you include both drives in the array. My array experience is using the FastTrak66, so I am hesitant to give specific advice with a KT7 configuration.

Regarding the soundcard drivers, first try the manufacturers website for drivers and info. The utility you ran may not work until the card is installed and working. That's just a guess, though. Good luck.

well, that (redoing the raid) worked... don't know why it didn't the first time. but the sound card problem still persists. it seems my computer locks up whenever running sound while doing something else (right clicking on winamp, moving the mouse, hitting the back button on the browser). i installed beta windows 2000 drivers, no luck, same freezes. so i'm thinking about getting the creative labs platinum. would this solve the problem, or does it sound like it's not my sound card? i mean, the drivers are supposed to work for windows 2000... maybe my card doesn't? (generic brand?).

I had the same prob with my vortex2 based sound card
I ended up buying a new sound card.
I got the Guillemot Maxi Sound Fortissimo
its got TOSlink out, supports A3d and EAX, and its $40 or so.

yea, i just tried to install the beta drivers thits time using the instructions provided (by deleting files and stuff)... now it doesn't even install! it's Platinum for me, baby!!! edit: actually, that Guillemot Maxi Sound Fortissimo card doesn't look so bad, thanks!

I'm glad your array is working, CrazyJoeKuta. Don't fork out extra for the Platinum unless you are sure you need the LiveDrive box. You can always buy the LiveDrive (or a HoonTech version) later if you change your mind.
