Hi all, is this a problem? I have 2-40GB maxtors in striping, and I want to add a 40GB drive as a backup running off the ATA-100 IDE connection on my Abit KG7. Is there anything in particular that I should be looking out for when doing this? It would strictly be a backup drive to store data on, I boot from RAID.

TIA

That sounds like it should work fine.... I run Raid 0 on my controller and then a single HDD off the mobo, should be no different even with raid built into the mobo....

I have a question though... I think I can run 2 arrays off of my Fastrack 100, but I need to know if they can be different... like if I get 2 of the new 80gb WD SEs, can I run them Raid 0 and move my IBMs to a RAID 1 array on the other port on my card, or do they both have to be RAID 0...?

I'm doing precisely what you suggest and it works flawlessly.

About the only thing I'm doing different is that the backup drive is mounted in one of the little removable tray thingies so that the backups can be stored off machine in case of fire/theft. That being the case, it requires a re-boot for the BIOS to recognize the backup drive coming and going.

Backup speed is BLAZING compared to anything else I've ever done.
