RAID mode versus AHCI mode

X58 chipset (ICH10). I am currently running in RAID mode (two arrays, one RAID1, and one RAID 10).

It seems thatRAID or AHCI are mutually exclusive choices. Is this correct? Or does AHCI support RAID also?

If AHCI does not support RAID, if I add an SSD, it will have to run it in RAID mode (IDE) and lose some performance if I want to keep my RAID 10 array.

If AHCI does support RAID, will my drives still be readable under AHCI mode? Or will I have to recreate the RAID array and reload the data?

Thanks.

AHCI is a subset of RAID.. so yes.. single drives running off the raid bios will effectively run in AHCI mode as single non-member drives.

In fact.. on some of the older boards we only had IDE and RAID settings in the bios and were forced to RAID mode to see AHCI functionality of single drives.
