I currently have a Gigabyte X570 Ultra that supports PCIe 4.0. It's paired with a Ryzen 3600 ( for now ) and a WD SN850 Gen 4 NVMe running at it's rated 7000mb read and 5000mb write. I happen to have a second WD SN850 NVMe Gen 4 drive.

I'm wondering if I ran them in raid, what kind of performance improvement would I see?

On another machine, an Intel Z390 PCI 3.0, a single NVMe Gen 4 drive ran at about 3500/3000 read/write and 2 drive in raid performance ran at about a 10% improvement. Clearly the bottleneck was PCIe 3.0 data bus.

Has anyone tried running two Gen 4 NVMe drives in raid on an AMD X570 M/B?

Close friend ran 970 evos in an x570 in raid 0 and recently upgraded to 980 pros in raid 0 on same Mobo. Throughput increased about 1.8x in each scenario but latency seemed to increase. So unless you need the increased sustained R/W speeds I think the latency increase is not worth it. The latency is added from the RAID controller.
