RAID Controller recommendation for SATA II drives?

Hi folks,

i will be doing a new build with Intel Quad core. I am leaning toward the Evga 680I SLI A-1 MOBO.

I want to run RAID-1 and I will NOT be using the MOBO RAID controller.

My drives will be dual Seagate 750GB SATA II's. This will be used for FPS gaming, video editing and Photoshop use.

There is a mind-numbing array of options.

should I find a MOBO that does 64 bit PCI-x or is 32 bit PCI-x sufficient?

any recommendations to narrow my search for a controller would be much appreciated!

My personal recommendation would be an Adaptec controller, only because of familiarity with the brand. I've heard good things about LSI but have no experience with them.

We are talking PCI-x and not PCI-Express I hope. 64-bit PCI-X would be a little overkill for what you say the use would be, it would be nice though :D. I haven't done any recent searching, but I believe you would only find 64-bit PCI-x slots on server-class mobos.

Look for as much onboard RAM on the controller as you can budget, it'll make a huge difference on rebuild/re-synch operations.

As far as video-editing and Photoshop uses, you might consider devoting a third drive to use for Photoshop "scratch" files, it'll make a difference when editing.

Hope that helps.
