RAID card sporadically recognized?

I bought a Highpoint Rocketraid 2300 PCI-E 1x raid card a few weeks ago. Since then I've been having a lot of trouble getting the computer to recognize the card. The first several times I installed (seated) the card, the computer just didnt see it. I was beginning to think I had a bad card.

Then one day, I tried it again and it worked. From then on, it seemed to do alright. A few days ago I installed 2 of the 4 hard drives that I'm going to use for my array (the other two come this week), now its back to being flaky again.

I'm running a DFI socket 939 ultra D motherboard. I have tried the card in both my 1x and 4x PCI-E slots with the same result. My initial guess was the card isnt being pressed down far enough, so I bent back the metal bracket (the one that screws to the case) on the card. This allowed me to press the card down into the slot farther. It seemed to work somewhat, but the card still wasnt being recognized on every boot - even when I dont even touch my case in between boots.

I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Basically, I dont want to build a huge raid 5 array (1.5TB) on a sketchy raid card. I want it to be completely stable before I start building the array.

I've already bent the bracket back so the card can be pressed completely into the motherboard. The problem is the card doesnt sit "flat", it slightly rocks back and forth in the PCI-E slot. I think this slight rocking is making recognition of the card unstable. In short, I think the card needs to be screwed down in the correct position to be stable.
