Raid card recommendation...

want to do a mirroring raid with either scsi / pata or sata. price is of great concern for the controller and want a hardware based controller. speed is not that important but data is. if it is scsi i just would like ultra 2 or faster. if there is a setup where i can run 2 2disc arrays that would be excellent - use one for system and the other for data. if it is scsi i would prefer one with a 50pin connector in addition to the 68pin ones so i can use my plextor ultra40 cd-rom 🙂

I imagine that one's fine. It's low profile though, so it might not easily fit in a standard ATX case.

could i just change the metal backplate piece on the card? are the attachment points standard?

I think it's different on each card, so I couldn't tell you. Hopefully someone else will know.
