RAID Board = Independant Speed ! ! ?

Hey yo peeps, I got a technical question 4 ya...

If i have a RAID Motherboard (say ASUS P4B533-E for example) and i want to use two 40gig HDD's independantly (as in using 80gig rather than 40gig RAID'ed), disabling the RAID feature... is it possible to use each of the HDD's on a separate IDE lead (Primary IDE and RAID IDE1)?

I heard this was possible and that it speeds up the HDD's because there is less traffic going thru the IDE lead to the Motherboard (as opposed to one IDE lead using master/slave)... is this true or what?

just hook up the drives one to raid and one to ide and youll be fine it shouldnt do anything, or you could run raid 0 and still have 80 gigs but if one drive fails you loose all info!
