Raid array and such

I fell like such a noob asking this stuff. I currently own an 80gb wd special edition ide drive. I am thinking about purchasing a raptor. I heard that they are great drives. My mb can take sata drive I think with the provided hardware that came with it. Would I connect the raptor using sata and leave the other hd with ide or what. Can I use a raid array for those, or do they both have to be sata drives. Sorry, I'm just really confused.

For sure, you can use both the drives (one IDE and one SATA), but I have no idea if you can raid them or not. (careful about your boot order)

I want to install os and apps on raptor. So if i am on main screen, can i put in win xp disc and choose it to install on raptor only. And then once its running, I can reformat my old drive.

If it was me, I would only hook up the Raptor while I was doing the XP install. Then when it is done, I would hook up the second drive, booting from the Raptor. (set in BIOS)

Once you are running off the XP installation on the Raptor, you can transfer over any files you want to keep from the old drive, then format it.
