RAID and IDE Drives on Same System?

I'm having what I think is a hard disk problem with my RAID drive (I posted details in Technical Support at: HELP! Hard disk failure on RAID?). One possible way I thought of to regain control of my computer is to install another disk drive connected to the IDE port and install Windows 2000 on it. In theory I would then be able to see the RAID drive so I can at least figure out whether or not it is salvageable. Does anyone know if this will work? I have an EPOX 8K7A+ MB with the Highpoint RAID drivers.
