Raid advantages

Is it possible to start raiding my hard drives if I already have 1 hard drive my my OS and other junk?

Do I need to do a fresh install or can I just get some more hard drives and start?

You could use the drives you already have but this would require you to backup all your information as the drives will be wipped by the RAID process once the drive is mounted. Another option would be to purchase a couple inexpensive (or expensive) drives, configure the RAID and make it bootable, reload your OS on that array and then transfer over your information, or leave them were they are for additional storage.
