I am purchasing 4 Seagate 73GB 15,000RPM SCSI Hard Drives. I am interested in putting them in a RAID 5 array for:

"Highest Read data transaction rate

Medium Write data transaction rate

Low ratio of ECC (Parity) disks to data disks means high efficiency

Good aggregate transfer rate"

-Text

What hard drive controler should I be looking for? Is there a better RAID config. for read speeds?
Cost is no point- I am looking for the best.

what motherboard do you have ? If it has 64bit PCI-X slots, get an LSI Megaraid 320-2.

I have a Tyan Thunder K8W, so yeah it should work. Thanks for the 320-2 reference is this what you mean?

Oh, and it says "LSI 64-bit PCI to Ultra320 Dual-Channel SCSI RAID Storage Adapter Card, does this mean it will work in a PCI slot? Can I run it in my DFI-SLI-DR system?

EDIT:By the way, love the RX-8, and the Lian-Li V2100B case you have, how do you like it? I might be buying one of those because it looks huge and I like the idea of the seperate compartments as well as the sleek black look and 12 3.5 and 7 5.25 bays it has, though it is very expensive for a case...

Monarch Computer has the 320-2X, but I have a noob question, can I have SCSI RAID on a NF4 board- the DFI SLI-DR? It does not have PCIx slots only PCI-E slots, and I am not aware of any SCSI controlers for PCI-E. Is there any NF4 board that has PCIx slots? I know I am missing somthing here...

No you can NOT use the 320-2X on anything but PCI-X.

If you need workstation storage you should consider a workstation board!
