Raid 5 Question: can you use different size drives?

example 1x500gb + 3x300gb?

does the 500gb only get viewed as a 300gb, or would it use the extra space?
 
Please search. Almost any question that could conceivably be asked about RAID has been asked and answered numerous times.

You would be limited to using 300GB of space on the 500GB drive (think about this one for a minute; how could you NOT be limited to the 300GB?) Depending on the RAID controller, you may be able to use the other 200GB of space as a separate partition or part of another array.
