I need to knwo what best config would work for me...

I own a raptor I have had now for a year...I hop to pick up a \nother used one in the FS/FT forum....

I wanmt to put them into a RAID config....Which would be good for....

Fast loading of CAD apps and CAD files....I have large files that can take a long time loading....general snappinesson the desktop is always appreciated as well..

My problem is I knwo nothing about the different configs, striping , etc...All foreign to me!!!

I have a large SATA drive for just plain storage that I will hopuse finished products, etc as well as all non essential apps...

RAID 0 = striping

basically takes two drives and makes them into one (thus, theoretically making the system faster)

it splits the data into half each

both drives have to be identical (at least in capacity, i think)

RAID1 = mirroring

this one writes the data on two hard drives (thus, more reliability, but slower)

again, both drives have to be identical

then, there are other RAID arrays, but you need >2 drives for that . . .

RAID1 = mirroring
However, drives don't need identical if you just wanna system partition raid! Volumn RAID is possible--depends on whether using Hardware or software RAID!!!
Another is RAID0+1, but I don't know whether you MB support it or not!
