Really? I would think the controller wouldn't care if the RPMs and exact models didn't match (although obviously your performance will suffer if one drive is slower than the others). I know that most controllers can deal with differently sized drives -- it just treats them all as if they're the size of the smallest drive in the set, and any extra space is ignored.
In fact, you can use this behavior in supporting RAID controllers to expand a RAID5, RAID1, or RAID0+1 configuration online, by swapping out one drive at a time for a higher-capacity one and then updating the array size once all the new drives are in place.
