Raid 1 questions

I have two hard drives in Raid 1 I believe. That means each drive has the same data on each one. How do you rebuild it and save the data at the same time? Do you just add a hard drive and then rebuild it and the data transfers whatever is on one hard drive to another? I'm looking to save whatever data possible.

If only one drive failed, you need to find out which one. On my motherboard this means going into the firmware for the RAID controller when I boot, for you it could be the BIOS instead.

Once you know the bad drive, you just remove it, plug in a new drive of the same size, and rebuild the array.

Look in your motherboard manual or PDF files on the motherboard CD-ROM.

WTF does it mean when I put in another drive and attempt to rebuild the array it says Recovery is not applicable.

Well the way we've done it here at work when a drive fails, is to break the mirror. Then set it up again. After you do that, it should start syncing and voila.
