RAID 1(mirror) and how to break it????

As the title says, i have a raid 1 30GB drive, where i suspect one of the drives is malfunctioning 🙁

I use a ASUS A7V133 with an onboard promise controller, 2 IBM GXP75 30GB drives (I know they have a bad rep, but it was all I had), Win2K Server

Now, how do I go about breaking the mirror, can i just remove one of the disk and let the controller figure it out self??
Or do I need to do something in the controller menu???

This mirror is my bootpartition, and at the moment the drive works fine, there is just some problems whenever i try to access a log file from my SQL server. Any attempt to read/copy/chkdisk it, and the computer stalls 🙁

So now I have the option of breaking the mirror and hope its only the one disk thats malfunctioning, or leave them running ontil i can get some new disks.
The biggest problem is that i go on holiday tomorrow, and i want the server to run during my vacation...

So what should i do, and if breaking the mirror, how ????

Get a new drive, turn the machine off, replace the suspected drive, reboot, during post hit "ctl+f" and choose "rebuild array", that will take some time, when done it will reboot and it should be fine. 🙂

i would recommend pulling one of the drives (shutting down, unplugging) then rebooting to see if that solves the problem, if so either rebuild the array or buy a new drive and rebuild array. later
