ok i'm wondering if someone can help me here.. i've got 2 samsung spinpoint SATA 120gb drives in RAID 1 on a basic Syba 3112r-based raid card. the thing is pretty flaky at times tho. like if i power down my computer with the keyboard power button, it will force a rebuild. if the system crashes, it will need a rebuild.

weird thing is, it's only my D:\ data drive, not the main OS drive, which is 2 raptors in RAID 1, which NEVER needs a rebuild after any of these incidents. is this normal?

thanks for any ideas,
karsten

What power supply are you using? Also, what proc, RAM, and how many hard drives total? I had this issue so often previously. I finally didn't have to deal with it when I went to dual PSU with a UPS... One hard drive in particular would always drop out and I'd have to rebuild the array. It usually happened when defragging the large arrays. Now I don't have any problems at all with that crap.

i currently have 4 HDs running off a 500W psu i bought recommended from a local place. it has decent rails but i'm wondering about its stability under load. don't have the money to replace it quite yet.. its xp x64 pro. 3200+ DTR, and 2x1gb corsair VS, on a dfi lanparty ut 250gb. not an elite system but hopefully i didn't go to bottom of the barrel.

yeah the one will sometimes error out in this process, i've learned i can go to raid bios, delete and recreate the raid, then it will rebuild OK from windows again. problem is sometimes the drive members will swap positions (pri/secondary) (!) who knows :-/
