RAID 1 disks shown separate in Winxp

I'm using a Promise Fastrak Raid controller at the ASUS P4c800-E deluxe for several years now, i've installed a RAID1 (2x Maxtor 6y120p0) and a RAID0 (2x SATA Maxtor 160Gig) this worked fine for several years but since two days now i'm having a big problem.

when my pc boots the RAID controller checks the RAID and disks and states that they are 100% ok (under DOS that is) but after starting WINXP (with sp3) and log in i see the two Maxtor 6y120p0 from my RAID 1 shown separate (disk G: and disk K:) in win explore, also the disks seem to be unformatted although the disks are used for some time now.
third issue is that the size of the disks is incorrect, the Maxtor 6y120p0 is about 115 Gig each, in a RAID 1 this should be the correct size but now i see for disk G: aprox 25 Gig and for disk K: aprox 86 Gig.

can anyone help me with this or point me in a direction to fix this,
is this a problem in my MFT? and how can i fix this.

many thx

First off reseat the card and all the cables. You could even try new cables.

You can try reconfiguring the arrays in the fastrak setup. Just be sure you do not destroy the original arrays. There is an option to skip destroying the arrays during reconfiguration. Be sure you use this option. I done it a few times but it's been a couple of years since I've done it, but as I recall it worked.

Of course you may have fubarred MFTs, but trying to fix that without the disks being back in their original arrays will just increase the chance that all data will go to bit heaven. If you get the arrays back, then you can run fixboot and fixmbr from the Windows Recovery Console if needed, but not before!

Also, make sure you are truly in RAID1 and not JBOD.

When in RAID 1 mode, the initial screen should show the drives as "Mirror."
