Set up: ASUS A7V266E RAID. IBM 75 GXP 40 gig ata 100 drives.... uh really that is about all that is concerned with this I guess.

Problem: Setting up RAID 0 and attempting to install XP...get nowhere...Error message says no fixed drives..end of story. Since you must format both drives and install XP to at the same time (therefore you must set up RAID 0 in advance) I have no clue what to do next.

There was one attempt where everything did indeed start installing. However the install would not find the drivers on the floppy (where they had been copied too) to install them. They were indeed there on the floppy and path was correct to drive and file. So installation ended up being aborted.

I have heard there is a "trick" to installing XP with RAID...seems to be a true statement....any help would be appreciated.

If you have the right drivers, you should just need to hit f6 during install and load them from the floppy. Are you sure the floppy was setup properly and had the right drivers on it?

Yes, the drivers are correct. Taken from the motherboard installation CDROM. The biggest problem was getting XP to even start loading in the first place after getting the NO FIXED DRIVES message. Since it didn't find anywhere to install itself to begin with it would abort installation.

You shouldn't even be getting that far without the option to hit f6, are you sure you didn't miss it?

I was hitting F6 on time.

Here is what I found. I finally used the ASUS installation CDROM's feature that makes the RAID driver floppy for you. WINXP was able to pull the drivers off it no problem at all. However the installation process after every first restart would simply start over again...asking for the unknown drivers (RAID) and then start installing itself again and again...etc.

So, I went into the BIOS and checked various setting, noticing PLUG AND PLAY OS was set to YES (since I had been running WIN ME) and set it to NO.

Restarted and everything went flawlessly. One of the easiest installs I have ever done. Go figure. Hope this helps anyone changing OS's from whatever to WIN XP using a RAID system.
