Raid 0 with new Vista install

I just got all my parts for the system in my sig. I am trying to setup raid 0 with two sata drives. I have selected to use the sata drives as raid in bios. I have also configured the drives via the raid utility into 1 logical drive. I get no raid errors during boot. After going through the Vista install to the point in which you choose a drive, my drive doesn't show up. Any ideas?

Edit: It is Vista Home Premium that I am installing.

Do they show up if you take them out of RAID?

If you happen to have any additional HDD hooked up, remove it until the install is completed. In my system, I have (2) X-25 SSD's and (2) velociraptors. I was trying to install onto the SSD's which were raided and it wouldn't recognize everything correctly until I disconnected the velociraptors. Just hook them back up after the install and you're good to go...

They show up if out of RAID. I do not have any other devices connected except for the DVD drive (which is obviously required). Like I said, the bios recognizes them as one logical device upon boot. Does Vista Home Premium 64 not support RAID? Hope its not something as stupid as that.

Did you install the "preinstall" SATA RAID driver? If not, your OS will not recognize your HDD. Detailed instructions for the preinstall procedure are in your Gigabyte Manual.

From all the pre-reads I did, Vista doesn't require any pre-install drivers like XP did. As long as your MB has a controller, you are alright? Even the "walkthroughs" that I have read about setting up RAID on Vista mention nothing about that. Simply form the drives into one logical drive and tell your MB to use SATA as RAID.

One thing I noticed, one drive is a SATA and one is a SATA2 (i.e. 1.5G/S vs. 3.0G/s). Could this be the issue?

I recall setting up Vista on a RAID 0 a long while back. At the point when you choose the drive to install onto there's an option to load drivers for RAID controllers and such - I certainly had to find drivers from the motherboard CD when I did it then.

Thankfully Vista is a bit more friendly than the XP install process and you can hunt through CDs and use USB sticks at that point in the install.

Yes, you need to install the preinstall driver in Vista as well.

As WildW mentioned, you can use a USB stick if you don't have a Floppy Drive.

Thanks, just weird that the MB Driver CD doesn't include this driver. I guess that would make things too simple and easy.

It's on the CD under SATA RAID drivers.
