I am running two Maxtor 40gb 2mb 5400rpms on Raid 0 with a 64kb stripe size. What are you guys running for stripe size, and what would be a better choice. I mainly play games like IL2 FB, HL, Splinter Cell, Rally Sport, Halo. Does the stripe size beyond a particular amount really make a diffrence?

I usually ran 16kb stripe sizes. Smaller stripe sizes are usually better for applications whereas larger stripe sizes are usually better for multimedia like large video files.

You probably won't notice a difference between 8, 16, 32, 64 anyways. 32kb is usually the default number most RAID cards use.

WW pretty much summed it up. but if you are collecting jps, mp3 and a couple movies then 32k is fine. but if you do mainly movie storage/ swapping/ editing go with 64k and the performance gain will me nominal.

I use 64k stripes, but next format i'm moving to 128 (or larger, going for biggest)

all I use RAID for these days is storing my videos, (had 136GB this morning, but by the time i get home, i betting on 140 :) )

I have a 200GB that holds my OS, page file, APPs, and MP3's
all my Doc's and Pic's are on a network drive

I've heard that promise reccomends keeping your os on IDE and just your page file on RAID. that should help performance a bit. Considering what i use it for (transfering of large files) i dont ever see myself moving the page file.

I've got RAID on 2 PC's now, that are connected using a Gigabit direct connect for lightning fast file transfers. can drop 2 hour movies in <30 secs :)
