I just built a new PC!
SOYO SY-K7V Dragon Plus mobo/
with onboard Promise ?FasTrak100 lite? RAID controller.
Athlon XP 1900+
768 Mb Crucial DDR
IDE 1 ? DVD / CD-RW
IDE 2 ? 30Gb WD 7200 ATA100 / ZIP
IDE 3 ? 60Gb IBM 7200 ATA100
IDE 4 ? 60Gb IBM 7200 ATA100
Windows XP
This is my first RAID attempt. The installation went fine.
I was surprised to find that my program installation, Office XP, PhotoDraw, Picture IT!, are VERRRRY SLOW, like 10 times longer than before RAID.
After reading the IDE RAID FAQ on the DA LAN TECH site, http://www.dalantech.com/ide-raid.shtml, it seems that I should expect my installs to be screaming fast.
Did I do something wrong? or not configure something yet?
I configured the Array using Auto-config.
Block size 64 KB
Mapping 14859 cyls
255 heads
63 sectors
After I configured the Array and installed Windows I added the 30 Gb drive to IDE 2 and finished installing the rest of my software
I ran SisSoft Sandra and am getting some really low scores. For example:
Drive C: index 3170, compared tp 36300 for a comparable config. (It took a long time to run)
The 30GB ATA100 HD Sandra index was 18288 compared to 2400 for a comparable drive.
Its not just my drives that are running poorly.
The memory test in Sandra came back with a RAM Int Buffered aEMMX/aSSE Bandwidth 1101 MB/s
A comparable config in Sandra showed 1925 MB/s
There are NO conflicts in the device manager
