Thanks to some light modding, my Asus A7V is now an A7V-RAID! Hooked up a couple of WD 40GB drives and everything has been flying along smoothly since.

w00t! :D

Why bother going raid?

If you calculate it all out you wont be saving much time at all..

I agree I used to have a pretty slick RAID0 setup and I went back. You know why?! latancy. Your latancy is almost doubled in a RAID0 solution. Of course on the upside your sustatained file transfer speed is through the roof. Great for DV editing and processing. However, 95% of even gammers will use that kind of transfer speed, and latancy will actually slow you down.

I'm running a single 80GB Maxtor drive and windows and any apps/games loads super fast, faster than my 2x 40gb WD 7200 RAID0. Latancy makes a huge differance.

Leave RAID for the servers guys...

I wouldn't keep any important information on your IDE RAID 0 array if I was you. It's only a matter of time until one of the drives fails and you lose all your data.

You may lose some space, but i'd run 0+1 if you can.
