recently i have been debating if i should turn in my current ulta 160 10000 rpm seagate cheetah hard drive for a raid o setup. currently i run all my o/s and apps off the 10000 rpm hard drive. now my question is how much of a performance increase or decrease would i see using a raid 0 setup on an adaptec or iwill controller card.

I assume SCSI 10k would win.

But 2X 7200rpm scsi drives would be fast too,but faster access time would still go to the 10k i think.

I assume you are talking about IDE Raid,

the 10K drive will have about 40% faster seek times. The sustained transfer rates of the IDE raid would be comparable to a single 10K drive.

The 10K drive will most likely last much longer (as scsi drives usually do).

If performance and/or Reliabillity are/is the most important, keep the SCSI Setup.

If you want tons of cheap space thats performs well (but not the most reliable) go with Striped IDE array.

If you meant SCSI Raid, Too expensive for my tastes.
